Research

Under the direction of Carl P. Schaffner, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the Waksman Institute of Rutgers University, ROCK of Africa Foundation is assisting in development of new medicine to treat victims of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The vast majority of people infected with the HIV/AIDS virus in sub-Saharan Africa receive no medicine at all to treat the virus.  The obvious reason is cost.  Teams of Christian researchers in the US and Africa are donating their time to develop low cost medicines for treating disease in the Third World.

ROCK of Africa Foundation has established collaborative research relationships with researchers in the United States, South Africa and Ghana, West Africa.  Research is currently being conducted in the US and in Africa.

The research team headed by Dr. Schaffner includes: Dr. Robert Parsons, Basking Ridge, NJ; (the late Dr. Paul Hoeprich, Wilmington, DE conducted much research in this project until his recent death); and others. Africa based team members include: Dr. George Bedu-Addo; Dr. Sampson Agodzo; Dr. T. C. Fleischer; and Dr. Yao Dwomo-Fokuo.
